Majlis-e-Ilmi holds discussion on Islamic Insurance

Since June 2005, IPS has been facilitating a working group, Majlis-e-Ilmi, on Islam and contemporary issues. The group, which consists of lawyers and experts on Islamic Jurisprudence, was formed last year during the visit  of  renowned  economic  and  Islamic  scholar, Dr. Muhammad Umar Chapra, to IPS.
Given the importance of Islamic Insurance being debated on various forums, Majlis-e-Ilmi conducted its meeting on June 14 to critically evaluate different forms of Islamic Insurance.
The group discussed various forms of Islamic insurance like Mudharabah, Takaful, and Waqf (Endowment) which are being practiced in different Muslim countries.
Prof. Atiqul Zafar made a brief presentation  while  Prof. Habibul Rahman Asim moderated the event.
The group would resume its discussion on the same topic in its next meeting in August.
