Conference Evaluates Sanctions on Iran

On the eve of UN Security Council Resolution deadline that entailed the threat of harsher sanctions on Iran if it did not suspend work on its nuclear program, IPS organized a conference entitled “Sanctions on Iran: Emerging Scenario” to study the possibility and outcomes of the expected sanctions on Iran .
The seminar was addressed by a panel of speakers which included Khalid Mehmood, former Ambassador; Lt. Gen.   (R) Talat Masood, Ex. Secretary of Defense Production; Fasih Uddin, Ex-Chief Economist and member National Academic Council (NAC) of IPS; Dr. Nazir Hussain, Prof. at Quaid-i-Azam University; Barrister Sadia Abbasi, Member Senate, Pakistan, and member NAC. Tanvir Ahmed Khan, Ex-Foreign Secretary, chaired the proceedings.
The speakers highlighted the developing geo-political scenario of the region vis-à-vis the tension on the Iran’s nuclear issue and evaluated the possible impact of the sanctions on Iran and its repercussions for the region and Pakistan in particular.
An interactive Q&A session followed the  speeches.
