Seeking to advance the research and dialogue on the increasing phenomenon of refugees in the contemporary world and to improve the legislation on the issues related to this phenomenon is the subject of latest IPS study. The study titled as “International Refugee Law, Islamic Shariah and Afghan Refugees in Pakistan” while comparing the International refugee law with the Islamic traditions and teachings about asylum discusses the points of convergence and the areas which need to be focused for improving the current situation both at academic and practical levels. A significant contribution of the study is insight it provides into the current situation and the debate regarding Afghan refugees in Pakistan. The deliberations of the seminar hosted by IPS, in collaboration with UNHCR, on December 15, 2009, form the basis for this publication.
