Economic Cooperation Recent Trends, Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract

[China’s significance within regional and international economy needs no mention. Trade in commerce between China and South Asian countries are also flourishing. The pattern of economic linkages between China and South Asia, however, appears to be heavily concentrated to limited number of countries, sporadic and disjointed. Majority of countries of the region are not benefitting from proximity to China and its dynamic economy. As Chinese share in global FDI and aid increases, strong inter-linkages and integration schemes need to be developed between China and countries of SAARC. Regional and sub regional schemes for development of infrastructure, communication networks, and resource development should be devised and implemented. – Eds.]
