Abat Fayzullaev, deputy head of department, ministry of foreign affairs, Uzbekistan visited IPS on January 15 and held a discussion with Lead Coordinator Irfan Shahzad. He was accompanied by Mir Shahid Aslanov from the Uzbekistan embassy in Islamabad.

Emerging regional situation in the wake of US/NATO’s announced drawdown from Afghanistan was discussed in detail in the meeting. The crux of the discussion was that as two important regional players, Pakistan and Uzbekistan should join hands and devise collaborative strategies for long-term and sustainable peace, stability in and development of war-torn Afghanistan. A lot of room existed for the two countries to enhance not only their bilateral relationship but also foster regional cooperation for mutual gains.

The visiting delegates also paid a brief courtesy call on Khalid Rehman, Director General IPS
