Maghrib aur Islam – a bi-annual Urdu journal of IPS – is a valuable resource for understanding Western perceptions about Islam and building basis for constructive dialogue between the two civilizations.

The resistance and resilience exhibited by Hamas in the wake of Israel’s offensive in Gaza not only re-invoked the need of a practical, sustainable and lasting solution of the issue, but also reflected upon the fact that the Palestinians have entrustedHamas to represent them, no matter how undesirable it may be for Israel, America and the Europe. Henceforth it becomes evident that no workable solution to the problem can be identified without taking Hamas on board.

The 2014 confrontation between Israel and Hamas manifested that despite the severe economic restrictions, Hamas has strengthened its defense up to the degree where even the analysts from Israel and the West have no choice but to accept it. The recent edition of Maghrib aur Islam is the translation of those writings about Hamas which generally escape the attention of Urdu readers.
