Participation in national consultative seminar on ‪‎Pakistan’s ‪‎literacy goals

Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad was invited to a national consultative seminar on ‪‎’Pakistan’s ‪‎literacy goals’ organized by NCHD (National Commission for Human Development) in collaboration with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) under the supervision of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, on September 18, 2015.

national consultativetThe seminar, which aimed to aid in developing a national plan for action for achieving 90% literacy rate as envisaged in ‘Vision 2025’, was attended by notable names like Ahsan Iqbal, federal minister of planning and development, Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, federal minister for education and professional training, the education secretaries of all provinces, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan as well as several formal and non formal education experts and the representatives of civil society organizations, donors and private sector institutions.

IPS Associate Ms Samina Najeeb delivered a presentation ‘Eradicating Illiteracy: A Crash Program’ on the occasion, urging to devise and implement a five-to-ten year national emergency plan for the purpose. The presentation, which was based on a policy research carried out at IPS, also stressed on mobilization of resources with the support of different stakeholders to balance the demand and supply sides.

DG-IPS Khalid Rahman and Head of Outreach Naufil Shahrukh were also present on the occasion.
