On the invitation of Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), Executive President IPS Khalid Rahman participated in a conference ‘Violations of Rights of Religious Minorities (Muslims & Sikhs) in India’ on July 12, 2017.
EP-IPS delivered a presentation on the occasion titled ‘Indian Secularism and Policy towards Religious Minorities: Myth and Reality’, viewing in his presentation that India, after its independence, opted for a secular state due to its inescapable political needs rather than any commitment to the ideology’s core values.
He backed his argument with stats and examples pointing that this lack of commitment was the precise reason why the incidents of abuse and mistreatment with religious minorities, especially Muslims, were on the rise in the country.
He expressed his disappointment over the fact that the Indian government was not doing anything to prevent this discrimination while urging the Muslim countries around the world to set aside their internal conflicts and differences and play a collective role to alleviate the situation of Muslims in India.
