IPS represented in a roundtable on implementation of FATA reforms

IPS was represented by its research coordinator Mairaj ul Hamid Nasri as a discussant in a roundtable titled ‘Implementation of FATA Reforms: Challenges Ahead’ organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) on October 31, 2017.

While voicing his opinion on the occassion, the IPS’ representative said that despite the broad general consensus over the region’s reforms, there still exist numerous challenges pertaining to trust deficit, pace of reforms, sequencing and prioritization that need be addressed. He urged that the process needs to be in conformity with the constitutional requirements, the statistics for resource allocation should be authentic, the institutional mechanism should be clear, the interests of people should be adhered-to, and last but not least the procrastination over the matter should be avoided as it can result in derailing of, and even hijacking of the whole process by factions looking for dominance in the region to serve their vested interests.
