The fifth session of the series of programs titled ‘The Living Scripts’ was organized by IPS LEAD – the learning, excellence and development program of IPS) on July 26, 2019 with Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain.
Hussain, who hails from Peshawar, pursued his early education from Islamia College Peshawar. After his graduation, he started serving as a school teacher in Upper Dir and Mardan. He then moved on to complete his Master’s degree from Peshawar University. Later he appeared in the CSS examination, and despite qualifying successfully it in the first attempt, chose to undertake it again the following year. He articulated his decision of the reattempt before the audience.
The speaker also threw light on his services in the Foreign Office, sharing a number of interesting events that occurred during his tenures as the ambassador of Pakistan to Kuwait, Nepal and Afghanistan.
Speaking of Afghanistan – where he first served as the Consul General in Kandahar during the Taliban regime and then as an Ambassador in Kabul for the period of three years following 2014 – the speaker urged the Pakistan and Afghanistan governments to engage in discussion with each other and attempt to solve common problems sooner rather than later.
The speaker also apprised the audience about his upcoming publication which narrates invaluable experiences and observations of the speaker from the days he spent in Afghanistan.
