Despite significant progress in recent years, Pakistan is falling short of meeting the energy targets set in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2030. Fixation on merely improving electrification reliability—which so far remained the mainstream discourse of the outgoing government—would not aid in getting traction of the goal. In seeking to ensure guaranteed access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, a more sustainable framework equally focused on all indices of the goal needs to be embraced.
