The eighteenth session of IPS series of program ‘The Living Scripts’ was held with Aziz Khan, former Inspector General (IG), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on January 15, 2021.
Aziz shared that he was born in Mardan in 1943 and had his early education from his village, but later on moved to Lahore for higher education where he completed his graduation from Law College, Lahore. He then appeared in the competitive exams which he qualified with good marks.
After joining the Police services, Aziz told, he went to Bangladesh (former East Pakistan) for initial training courses and served there during the historic elections of 1971 as well. He shared that he had witnessed almost all the major incidents that happened in the Eastern Pakistan at that time, where according to him, the agitations started soon after the elections and gradually began to get worse.
The speaker also shed light on his services in Beirut where he served in Pakistan’s embassy as an FIA officer and had several opportunities to meet renowned Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat.
Speaking of Balochistan where he had served as an IG, the speaker said that it was important to understand the nature of the province and the issues of its people first in order to solve the underlying problems. Doing this in a better way, he opined, should take care of most of the problems by itself.
Responding to a question over improving the efficiency of the police in the country, the speaker stressed on the need of police reforms while urging to equip them with improved modern technologies.
