Consultative session on research on food security

An online session was held with Prof Dr Abdul Saboor, IPS’ Non-Resident Fellow and dean, social sciences at PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi on January 26, 2021 to discuss an ongoing research thesis of a PhD student Tauqir Ahmed under his supervision aimed at exploring workable solutions towards food security.

The research focuses on four main facets of food security: availability, accessibility, sustainability, and utilization using surveys and theoretical approaches. The resulting policy guidelines from these four domains would then be adapted to make it workable in the Pakistani context, while also differentiating between rural and urban populations.

MPhil scholar and former IPS intern, Maham Sarwar from National Defence University (NDU) also presented her research proposal on the occasion to explore severe food insecurity faced by urban slum households, especially in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
