Aimed at discussing the remarkable work of Prof. Michel Boivin titled ‘The Sufi Paradigm and the Makings of a Vernacular Knowledge in Colonial India: The Case of Sindh (1851-1929)’, an online discussion was organized by IPS in collaboration with Decolonial Dialogues on March 4, 2021.
The panelists, which included Prof. Nukhbah Taj Langah from Forman Christian College, Dr. Uttara Shahani from University of Oxford, Dr. Ahmed Memon from University of Kent, and Prof. Michel Boivin, the author of the book himself, discussed the theoretical, thematic and methodological weaknesses and strengths of the said work.
The purpose of the seminar was to engage renowned scholars to understand the cultural dynamics of Sindh and Southern Punjab, as well as to analyze the influence of neighboring Indic and Iranian cultures in the making of Sufi culture in Sindh and Punjab.
