IPS Press – the publishing and bookselling arm of Institute of Policy Studies – hosted an evening with Syed Abu Ahmad Akif (SI) – a former federal secretary, member IPS-National Academic Council, and a literary figure, with several books to his credit as an author, translator, and editor.
The event held on January 2, 2022 in the sidelines of the 16th Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF) attracted a number of book lovers from different walks of life.
Akif has recently edited an anthology of case studies on governance in Pakistan titled Breaking the Breakers (IPS Press, 2021) and has translated in Urdu the memoirs of Azmat Ashraf Refugee (Dar-ul-Kashf, 2022). The latter, an autobiography, narrates the author’s three family migrations: first, after 1947 Partition from India to East Pakistan; second, from Bangladesh to Pakistan after the 1971 tragedy of the fall of East Pakistan, and later from Pakistan to Canada.
The session hosted by Shakil Khan concluded with a book signing ceremony in which many participants got their copies autographed by Syed Akif.
