‘Curbing suicides and rape issues more important for Dalits than forced conversion’ – Dileep

Dileep Kumar Seju is Dalit rights activist based in Islamkot, Tharparkar. To ensure Dalit representation in legislative assemblies, he contested last general elections from his home constituency, but failed to defeat the feudal electables. In this interview, he shares his views on the issue of alarming suicide rate among Dalit communities, and the everyday sexual harassments of Dalit women. Adequate Dalit representation in legislative assemblies through dual/separate voting is the key issue of Dalits for Dileep. He thinks that these issues require urgent solution than the issue of forced conversion. According to him under-aged girls or adult women converts to Islam are unable to adjust in the Muslim family as they are not given the status equal to other Muslim women in the household.
