An IPS-led delegation as part of its ongoing study on Islamic Social Finance for Social Protection visited Malaysia from November 4-9, 2022 to study the various initiatives and models developed there for providing support and protection to the vulnerable segments of the society through Islamic social finance tools.
The five-member delegation included Dr Salman Ahmed Shaikh, principal investigator and Dr Anwar Shah, co-principal investigator of the study, along with Mohammad Mustafa Khan, technical advisor, GIZ, Rana Sajjad Babar, administrator zakat, Punjab, and Syed Mubashar Raza, deputy administrator zakat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meetings of the visiting delegation were held in three cities of Malaysia i.e., Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Penang with the different governmental organizations such as IWaqf, Jawahar (A government institution which governs Zakat and Awqaf Institutions in Malaysia), Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (Zakat Department Kedah), Pusat Pengutan Zakat, Perbandingan Waqf Selangor, Sadaqah House Bank Islam and Awqaf Holdings in Kuala Lumpur.
