Pasni Fish Harbor was inaugurated in 1989 amid great expectations. By 2010, the main channel of Pasni’s sole economic hub had become blocked due to continuous siltation. The harbor has progressively deteriorated over time because of the lack of concern and neglect by the organizations responsible for the development of harbors and the Government of Balochistan. The entrance and navigational channel are now obstructed due to reclamation, erosion, excessive siltation, and inadequate dredging. This translates into closing of the only source of livelihood of the community which depends on fishing and fishing industries. For the development of the harbor and the welfare of the community, the task of dredging needs to be entrusted to competent authorities and the government should maintain a proper framework. This report assesses the intrinsic issues faced by the harbor and makes tangible recommendations, both short and long term, for its development and sustainable maintenance.
