The international community should accept the ground realities of Afghanistan as coercion is no option and economic sanctions against the Afghan Taliban government need to be lifted as soon as possible.
This was suggested by Ambassador Syed Abrar Hussain, vice chairman IPS, while speaking at a roundtable titled ‘Afghanistan’s New Era: Assessing the Role of Regional Powers and International Organizations in Shaping Afghanistan’s Future’ at the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), Islamabad, on May 18, 2023.
He further said that the Government of Pakistan must assist Afghan businessmen and traders in order to derive full benefits from these economic avenues as Pakistan is Afghanistan’s top transit and commercial partner. Efforts towards public diplomacy with the Afghan people must also be made, he added.
