Conference Report – Islam and Humanitarian Principles

This conference report – which is based on a two-day national roundtable conference ‘Islam and Humanitarian Principles‘ organized by Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Islamabad on August 27-28, 2019 – details the session’s proceedings, outcomes and key lessons. Reflecting the talks of religious scholars, law experts, health practitioners, philanthropists, activists and representatives of humanitarian organizations from across Pakistan, the report discusses different aspects of humanitarian principles not only in light of Islamic thought and jurisprudence but also in the light of its practice in the field. It appreciates the spirit and objectives behind humanitarian principles by looking into their potential compatibility with the principles of Islam, identifies potential divergences, and suggests ways to bridge the gap in theory and practice.
